The Rocca Ariostesca’s name comes from the poet Ludovico Ariosto, who stayed there from 1522 to 1525. It is a medieval fortification that dominates the Umberto I square, the main square of city of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, of which it is the monumental symbol.
The Rocca, damaged during the Second World War and later restored, is now a place for art exhibitions and cultral events. It hosts the Archological Museum, where several artifacts from the prehistoric period are stored.
